Sizing
Choosing the Right Building Size
Most regret after a build is about size, not finish. Work backwards from what goes inside and how you move around it.
Start with what goes inside
List the vehicles, equipment and workbenches that must fit, then add the walking and working space around them. A truck that technically fits a bay is useless if the doors can't open.
Then check height and openings
Eave height drives what you can park, lift and store. Lifts, RVs and dump trailers all need more clearance than a standard garage. Door width matters as much as building width.
Then plan for the next five years
Adding length at the design stage is far cheaper than extending a finished building. If you are undecided between two footprints, price both — we will quote them side by side.
- 30x40 — common for a two-to-three bay shop or garage with work space.
- 40x60 — common for equipment storage, larger workshops and small commercial shops.
